A collision involving a dump truck has led to major lane closures on Highway 401 in Mississauga late Monday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police say the truck, which was carrying gravel, was heading eastbound shortly before 5 p.m. when a mechanical issue caused it to strike a concrete barrier. The impact resulted in gravel spilling across sections of the highway, including westbound lanes.

The driver suffered minor injuries. As cleanup and recovery efforts continue, all westbound express lanes in the affected area between Mavis Road and Mississauga Road have been closed, while traffic is being diverted through the collector lanes. The eastbound HOV lane is also shut down.

The closures remained in place for several hours. All lanes were fully reopened just before midnight.
