Chatham-Kent police are investigating after a man was fatally struck by a passenger train on Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the railway tracks near Northwood Line at approximately 2:08 p.m. following reports that an eastbound train had hit a pedestrian.

Police said the victim, a 34-year-old man from Chatham, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency actions taken by the train operator.

The area was secured as members of the Traffic Management Unit worked alongside railway police and the Office of the Chief Coroner to investigate the incident. Rail traffic in the corridor was temporarily halted before the train was cleared to continue.

Authorities say there is no threat to public safety, and no additional information will be released out of consideration for the victim’s family.
