Two drivers are facing charges after a collision involving two transport trucks on Highway 401 east of Oshawa left one driver injured.

Ontario Provincial Police said the crash occurred around 4:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes within the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand.

Investigators say the two tractor-trailers collided, sending one driver to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 43-year-old man from Brampton has been charged with careless driving and making an unsafe lane or shoulder move. The other driver, a 46-year-old man from Cobourg, faces charges of driving on a closed highway and failing to surrender a licence.

The highway remained shut down for several hours before reopening around 9 p.m.
