A fatal crash involving a commercial truck and a passenger vehicle shut down a stretch of Highway 17 east of Desbarats for much of Tuesday.
Ontario Provincial Police said the collision happened around 8 a.m. near Gordon Lake Road.
Investigators confirmed the driver of the passenger vehicle, a resident of British Columbia, died at the scene. A passenger in the commercial vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The highway remained closed in both directions for roughly 11 hours while emergency crews investigated and cleared debris from the roadway. The route fully reopened shortly before 7:30 p.m.
The investigation is being led by the East Algoma OPP with support from the North East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team.
Police have not released the cause of the collision and no charges have been announced.
