A 40-year-old woman from Mississauga has died following a series of collisions on Highway 401 late Friday night, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Emergency crews were called to the area near Eglinton Avenue West at approximately 11:45 p.m. after two related crashes occurred close together. Police say the first collision involved an SUV and a passenger vehicle.
Investigators said the woman, who was driving the SUV, had exited her vehicle after the initial crash when she was struck by another passing car in a second incident.
She was transported to hospital with critical injuries and later died. The highway closures put in place for the investigation have since been lifted.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crashes or has dashcam footage to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers.
