A Kitchener man has been charged after a rideshare passenger suffered a broken ankle in Waterloo.

Police say the incident happened Saturday at about 10 p.m. near the intersection of King Street North and Columbia Street West. Investigators allege a 25-year-old man was entering the backseat of a rideshare vehicle when the driver began pulling away before the passenger was fully inside.

The passenger reportedly fell to the ground, and the vehicle drove over his leg, resulting in a fractured ankle.

A 38-year-old driver from Kitchener has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
