A Peel Regional Police cruiser was involved in a crash with a vehicle linked to an earlier attempted traffic stop in Brampton early Thursday morning.
The collision occurred shortly after 1 a.m. near Van Kirk Drive and Sandalwood Parkway. Police say officers had initially tried to stop the vehicle earlier in the night near Rutherford Road and Orenda Road, but the driver fled the area.
Investigators noted that officers did not pursue the vehicle after it left the scene. The vehicle was later located near Van Kirk Drive and Sandalwood Parkway, where the collision involving the police cruiser occurred.
Details about how the crash happened have not yet been released. Peel paramedics said one adult was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in stable condition. Police described the injuries as non-life-threatening.
As the investigation continues, road closures remain in place on Van Kirk Drive between Cedarvalley Boulevard and Sandalwood Parkway and are expected to continue for an extended period.
