A 39-year-old woman has died after being struck by a cement truck in Toronto’s Cabbagetown neighbourhood on Friday afternoon.

Toronto police say the collision happened just before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Parliament Street and Gerrard Street East. A cement truck was travelling southbound through the intersection when the traffic signal changed to green, while the woman was crossing in the north crosswalk from west to east. She was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver stayed at the location following the incident.

Investigators say it is too early to determine whether charges will be laid and noted there was no apparent interaction between the driver and the pedestrian prior to the collision.

The victim’s identity has not been released. Gerrard Street East was closed between Berkeley and Sumach streets for several hours during the investigation before reopening later in the afternoon.
