Fire crews are continuing to investigate a major house fire that broke out in the Kitchener’s Idlewood neighbourhood early Sunday morning.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Notchwood Court, near Old Chicopee Drive, just before 6:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames spreading across multiple levels of the residence, including the second floor and attic.
Officials say one person was inside the home at the time but managed to escape safely. No injuries were reported.
According to the City of Kitchener, the fire caused extensive structural and smoke damage, leaving the home uninhabitable. Damage is estimated between $400,000 and $500,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
