A 21-year-old man from Fort Frances is facing criminal charges after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 11 near Atikokan left a passenger seriously injured.

Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to the collision around 4:30 p.m. on May 22 near Eva Lake, alongside members of Niobe Lake Fire Rescue Service. Investigators determined the eastbound vehicle lost control and entered the ditch.

A passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was treated in hospital, while the driver received treatment for minor injuries.

According to police, the investigation found the driver was operating the vehicle dangerously and was also violating conditions tied to a previous release order. He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

The accused has been charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm and failing to comply with an undertaking. He has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.

Police also thanked members of the public who assisted with emergency first aid and helped investigators at the scene.
