A 24-year-old man from Brampton died after a canoe overturned on Upper Rideau Lake in eastern Ontario on Saturday evening.
Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of a boating emergency shortly after 5:30 p.m. on May 30. Emergency personnel from the Leeds County OPP, Leeds and Grenville Paramedic Service, and Rideau Lakes Fire Department attended the scene.
The man was found and taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed he was not wearing a life jacket when the incident occurred.
A postmortem examination is planned as investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the canoe capsizing. Further details have not yet been released.
