A kitchen fire severely damaged a home on Birch Street in Orillia Wednesday morning, sending dark smoke into the sky.
Emergency crews responded around 8:30 a.m., finding the top floor heavily affected and the interior largely destroyed, rendering the house uninhabitable.
Paramedics treated residents for smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported. The homeowner and her dog were present at the time. Fire officials estimate the damage at approximately $700,000.
