Three people were taken to hospital, including two with serious injuries, following a house fire in Markham early Friday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the blaze near Carlton Road and Kennedy Road at approximately 6:46 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find the home heavily involved in fire, prompting road closures and evacuation efforts in the area. The flames quickly spread to a neighboring home and firefighters evacuated several nearby houses.

One resident had already escaped the residence before crews arrived. Firefighters later rescued two additional residents from the third floor and transported them to hospital. In total, three people were hospitalized, with one suffering minor injuries and two sustaining serious injuries.

Authorities have accounted for all residents of the home. Investigators say there is currently no evidence of suspicious activity, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by local fire officials.

Carlton Road remained closed as emergency personnel continued their work at the scene.
