Three people have died and several others were injured following a devastating multi-vehicle collision in Kawartha Lakes on Saturday evening.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Highway 7 and New Heights Road in the Town of Omemee at approximately 6 p.m. after reports of a crash involving a passenger vehicle and four motorcycles.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, an 18-year-old man from Peterborough, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 72-year-old motorcyclist from Dunchurch also died at the scene. Another rider, a 65-year-old man from Barrie, was airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed to those injuries.

Two additional motorcyclists were injured in the collision. A 30-year-old man from Sudbury was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to a Toronto-area facility, while a 36-year-old Sudbury resident received treatment at the scene and was later released.

Ontario Provincial Police continue to investigate the cause and circumstances of the fatal crash.
