One person was taken to hospital following a two-alarm fire at a residential building in Toronto’s Fort York neighbourhood early Tuesday morning.

Toronto Fire Services responded to the scene near Bastion Street and Fort York Boulevard shortly before 2 a.m. after reports of smoke on an upper floor of the building. Crews arrived to find smoke spreading through a hallway and traced the source to a single apartment unit.

Firefighters quickly entered the unit and brought the blaze under control before it could spread to nearby residences. Paramedics said one resident from the affected apartment was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Officials say the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigators are expected to inspect the unit later Tuesday.
