A male pedestrian has died after being struck by a train in downtown Greater Sudbury, leading to significant traffic disruptions on Friday evening.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on June 12 at the rail crossing on Elm Street between Pine Street and Frood Road. Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the man was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities noted that the incident did not occur at a designated railway crossing. The investigation is being led by the service’s Integrated Traffic Safety Unit and remains ongoing.
The collision prompted road closures and significant traffic disruptions in the area for nearly two hours before reopening shortly after 10:15 p.m. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.
