A section of Wharncliffe Road South was closed Saturday morning after an SUV crashed into a hydro pole, causing significant vehicle damage and disrupting traffic.
Emergency crews responded to the scene between Commissioners Road and Belmont Avenue after reports of a vehicle striking a utility pole. The white SUV sustained extensive front-end damage and came to rest against the pole near a local auto dealership.
According to witnesses, the driver may have experienced a medical emergency while travelling southbound, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, mount the sidewalk, and collide with the pole.
The driver was transported to hospital with injuries that have not yet been disclosed.
The roadway remained affected while utility crews worked to repair the damaged pole. Fire officials later cleared the scene, and the incident remains under review.
