An e-bike rider in his 20s remains in critical condition following a serious collision with a commercial vehicle in Ottawa’s Barrhaven area Tuesday morning.

Ottawa police said the crash involved a motorcycle-style electric vehicle and a refrigerated cube van at the intersection of Greenbank Road and Strandherd Drive shortly after 9:30 a.m. The rider was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police closed portions of Strandherd Drive and Greenbank Road while investigating and are asking witnesses to come forward.

The crash occurred around the same time as a Hydro Ottawa power outage that affected more than 6,000 customers and temporarily disabled several traffic signals in the area. Police have not confirmed whether the outage contributed to the collision. Power was restored later that morning.
