A 48-year-old Richmond Hill man has been charged following a midweek crash in York that seriously injured a toddler and an adult pedestrian.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:57 p.m. Wednesday near Bathurst Street and Avenal Drive. Police allege the driver of a red Ford F-250 lost control while travelling southbound, left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then hit three pedestrians on the west sidewalk.

A two-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospital. A 30-year-old woman who was with them was unharmed. The driver remained at the scene and was treated for minor injuries.

Police announced Friday that the driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving causing bodily harm or death. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the crash and are seeking witnesses and dash-camera footage from the area.
