A young boy was airlifted to hospital following a serious two-vehicle collision in south Ottawa on Friday morning.
Emergency crews responded around 7:26 a.m. to the intersection of Nixon Drive and Dalmeny Road after a pickup truck and a sedan crashed. Paramedics treated four people at the scene.
Three adult men were transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the boy was flown to CHEO by Ornge air ambulance in serious but stable condition.
Ottawa Fire Services reported that both vehicles had left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch with extensive damage. Several occupants were trapped inside when firefighters arrived. Crews stabilized the vehicles and used hydraulic rescue equipment to free those inside, successfully extricating three patients.
Police temporarily closed Dalmeny Road between River Road and Gordon Murdock Road while emergency crews worked and investigators examined the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
