A driver has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving causing bodily harm following a wrong-way collision on Highway 401 near Kipling Avenue in Etobicoke on Sunday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police said the collision occurred around 6:30 a.m., when a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction struck another car, which subsequently caught fire. Two people sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital, though authorities said their injuries are not life-threatening. Paramedics also assessed a third person at the scene.

The eastbound lanes remained closed for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene. Traffic resumed shortly before 9:30 a.m.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
