A man has died after falling from an escalator at RioCan Empress Walk Plaza in North York on Thursday evening.

Toronto police were called to the plaza near Yonge Street and Empress Avenue shortly after 5 p.m., where the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident initially prompted the evacuation and temporary closure of the plaza, with the death being treated as a possible workplace-related incident. However, investigators later confirmed the man was not an employee, leading the Ministry of Labour to end its involvement because the case did not fall under its jurisdiction.

Police said on Friday that the investigation found no evidence of criminal activity.
