A 62-year-old woman has died after being struck by a Jeep Wrangler at the intersection of Victoria Street North and Frederick Street in Kitchener on Saturday afternoon.
Waterloo Regional Police said emergency crews responded to the scene around 4:05 p.m. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The 41-year-old driver of the Jeep was not injured in the collision.
The intersection remained closed for several hours as the Waterloo Regional Police Traffic Services Unit examined the scene before reopening. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
Update – A 41-year-old Kitchener man has been charged with careless driving causing death, making an unsafe turn, and violating novice driver alcohol restrictions by having a blood alcohol concentration above zero. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16.
