Two 12-year-old boys were hospitalized after losing control of an e-scooter and crashing in Etobicoke on Friday afternoon.
Toronto police responded to the incident near Dundas Street West and The East Mall shortly after 1 p.m. Investigators say the pair fell from the e-scooter for reasons that remain under investigation.
One boy sustained life-threatening injuries, while the other suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The East Mall was temporarily closed between Vickers Road and Coronet Road during the investigation but has since reopened.
Police also noted that e-scooters are prohibited on public streets, sidewalks, parks and trails in Toronto, and Ontario law bans their use by anyone under the age of 16.
