A large house fire in Ottawa’s rural west end on Monday evening left two people with smoke inhalation symptoms and displaced residents seeking assistance.
Ottawa Fire Services responded to the blaze at a two-storey home on Diamondview Road near Carp after multiple 911 calls reported a garage fire around 5:45 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, the garage was fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to the rest of the home. Crews launched an aggressive attack and used a hose line through the residence to contain the blaze. Because the area did not have nearby fire hydrants, firefighters relied on a water shuttle system to supply crews.
The fire was brought under control shortly before 7 p.m. Ottawa paramedics assessed a 48-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man at the scene for smoke inhalation symptoms; both were treated and released.
Ottawa Victim Services was called in to support residents displaced by the fire. Officials continue to investigate the cause and origin of the blaze.
