A 25-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple charges after an early morning shooting and vehicle theft near Toronto’s waterfront left several people injured.
Toronto police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday near Polson Street and Cherry Street. Investigators allege the accused exchanged gunfire with an unidentified suspect before stealing a rideshare vehicle with passengers inside and fleeing the scene.
Police say the stolen vehicle struck pedestrians and other vehicles during the escape. Two people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, while another was injured after being hit by the vehicle. The accused also sustained non-life-threatening gunshot injuries and was hospitalized.
Police arrested Omar Abdul Singateh, 25, of Brampton, and recovered a firearm from the stolen vehicle. He faces multiple charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, robbery, four counts of forcible confinement, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, and dangerous operation.
Investigators have not released a description of the second person involved in the exchange of gunfire, and the investigation remains ongoing.
