A 21-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre after a serious collision in south Barrie on Wednesday morning.
Emergency crews responded shortly before 7 a.m. to a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck towing a flatbed near Churchill Road and Welham Road. Police say the motorcycle was travelling behind the pickup when the rider attempted to pass on the inside as the truck was turning right. The impact left the motorcyclist with serious injuries.
The area was temporarily closed while investigators examined the scene but has since reopened to traffic.
Update – The motorcyclist has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home. Following an investigation, Barrie police charged the 21-year-old motorcyclist with careless driving on September 2.
