A 55-year-old man from Birch Island has been charged following a July 4 collision between a personal watercraft and a boat in McGregor Bay within Whitefish River First Nation.

Emergency crews responded to the incident at about 10 p.m. after receiving reports of the crash. The boat operator suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police allege the jet ski operator left the scene before officers arrived.

The accused faces charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident causing bodily harm, and failing to provide his name to the person in charge of the other vessel. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 25.
