A 24-year-old man from Welland is in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash in St. Catharines early Saturday morning.
Niagara Regional Police said officers responded around 6:40 a.m. to the Welland Canal Parkway near the water treatment plant after a vehicle collided with a hydro pole.
The driver was transported to hospital, where his condition later worsened and his injuries were determined to be life-threatening.
Investigators believe the crash involved only one vehicle, and the cause remains under investigation.
