A 31-year-old Mississauga man has died after a canoe overturned on Stewart Lake in Georgian Bay Township Saturday evening, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
OPP said the incident happened shortly after 8 p.m., about 40 feet from shore. Two people were aboard the canoe when it capsized.
One person was rescued by a passing boater, while the second occupant went underwater and did not resurface. The OPP underwater search and recovery unit located the missing person on Sunday.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident in collaboration with the Ontario coroner’s office and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
