Three people were taken to hospital after a serious crash in Cambridge’s Hespeler neighbourhood early Monday morning.
The collision happened shortly after 3 a.m. near Maple Grove and Beaverdale roads and involved a Toyota van and a Volkswagen SUV, according to Waterloo Regional Police.
The Toyota driver, a 29-year-old Cambridge man, was transported to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Two youths who were travelling in the Volkswagen were also injured. One was taken to a local hospital, while the other was transported to a hospital outside the region.
Police closed roads around the crash site for several hours as members of the Traffic Services Unit examined the scene. The closures have since been lifted.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Update – The Volkswagen driver, a 16-year-old from Oxford County, faces multiple charges including taking a motor vehicle without consent, careless driving causing bodily harm, stunt driving, speeding and failing to stop for a red light. The teen is also charged with violating three G1 licence conditions involving driving without a qualified driver, carrying a front-seat passenger and driving during prohibited hours.
