An Ontario Northland bus driver has been charged with careless driving after a single-vehicle collision on Highway 17 north of Wawa.

The crash occurred around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. Police say the passenger bus rolled onto its side and ended up in a ditch, with several passengers reporting injuries.

Seventeen passengers were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and were later released.

Ontario Provincial Police say their investigation has resulted in the driver being charged under the Highway Traffic Act. Police are also asking anyone who witnessed the collision or captured it on dashcam or video to come forward.

The highway has since reopened, and the damaged bus has been removed from the scene.
