A 17-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by an SUV while riding an electric scooter in Niagara Falls on Tuesday morning.

Niagara Regional Police responded to the collision near Lundy’s Lane and Royal Manor Drive at approximately 10:55 a.m. The crash involved a blue Pontiac Torrent and the teenager, who was riding the scooter.

Police said the SUV driver left the scene, leaving the injured teen on the roadway. He was taken to a hospital outside the region for treatment.

With assistance from Hamilton police, investigators identified and located the Pontiac. Its driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired operation.

The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
