A 22-year-old Scarborough man has died after his motorcycle crashed into an electronic sign inside a construction zone on Highway 401 in Pickering.
Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called to the highway between Brock Road and Westney Road shortly before 2:30 a.m. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the motorcycle was travelling at a high rate of speed when it struck the sign. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries.
The westbound 401 at Westney Road was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene but has since reopened.
