Health officials are trying to track down the owner of a dog that reportedly attacked and injured a person in Tillsonburg Thursday night.
Southwestern Public Health says the incident took place around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 13 on Quarter Town Line Road, near Southridge Public School. The victim had parked his truck and was walking along the roadway when a large dog suddenly came out of a ditch and latched onto his right arm, pulling him an estimated 10 to 15 feet.
The dog was wearing a collar, but officials have not been able to identify its owner.
The animal is described as large, with short black hair and a short tail. It is believed to have the appearance of a Rottweiler.
Finding the dog is important because public health officials need to establish whether it has received its rabies vaccinations. That information will help the victim and his health-care provider determine whether rabies prevention treatment is required.
The owner, or anyone who may know where the dog came from, is asked to call Southwestern Public Health and request a Public Health Inspector.
