A fire at a Collingwood retirement residence Saturday morning sent smoke and flames rising from the building’s roof, prompting a response from three fire departments.
Collingwood fire officials say crews were called to Balmoral Retirement Residence on Harbour Street West at about 9:15 a.m. The blaze was brought under control around noon.
The fire was limited to the exterior of the building and is believed to have started in connection with roof repair work.
Two staff members were checked by paramedics at the scene for possible smoke inhalation, but officials say no residents were injured or forced to leave.
Simcoe County Emergency Management was also called in to prepare for potential emergency accommodations if needed. The extent of the damage has not yet been determined.
