A boating emergency on Lake Ontario ended safely Saturday afternoon after nine people were pulled from the water near Mississauga’s Port Credit Harbour Marina.
Peel Regional Police were called shortly after 5 p.m. following reports of a capsized vessel. Marine Unit officers found the boat overturned roughly 50 metres south of the Ridgetown breakwall, with all nine occupants holding onto the vessel.
A bystander operating a personal watercraft reached one of the people in distress and helped them before police arrived. Officers then brought the remaining group back to the marina. No major injuries were reported, although some people sustained minor abrasions.
The damaged vessel was later discovered on rocks along the west side of the Credit River. Police decided not to attempt a recovery because of the unsafe water and weather conditions and informed the Coast Guard of the boat’s last known position.
