Firefighters responded to a townhouse fire in North Bay’s west end Monday afternoon, with crews working quickly to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring units.

The fire was reported around 3 p.m. in the 500 block of McNamara Street, near McKeown Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a middle unit.

Crews focused on stopping the fire from reaching the attic and adjacent homes, where flames could potentially spread through shared spaces. The fire was brought under control, while firefighters continued checking the attic and surrounding units for signs of extension.

Officials said the tenant was not home when the fire broke out, and the building was cleared. No injuries or animals were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.
