A driver has been arrested for impaired driving after a single-vehicle crash in Brampton early Tuesday knocked down several hydro poles and caused a major power outage.
Emergency crews were called to the area around 1:12 a.m. after the vehicle struck hydro equipment along Rosedale Avenue. Peel paramedics said no injuries were reported and no one was taken to hospital.
The crash forced the closure of Rosedale Avenue between Fairglen Avenue and Mill Street while hydro crews work to repair the damaged infrastructure.
The collision initially left 4,376 customers without power. By late Tuesday morning, 1,167 customers remained affected, with Alectra identifying the outage as being caused by a vehicle collision.
Hydro crews said some power could be restored by noon, while part of the neighbourhood may remain without electricity through the rest of the day as workers replace damaged poles and stabilize the system.
