A dump truck fire on westbound Highway 401 in North York disrupted traffic for several hours Tuesday.
The truck, which was hauling gravel, caught fire near Allen Road, prompting Ontario Provincial Police to shut down the highway’s two express lanes around 2:30 p.m.
Police said a mechanical failure involving the truck’s brake lines caused the parking brakes to lock while the vehicle was in motion. The resulting heat sparked the fire in the trailer.
No injuries were reported.
Crews finished clearing the scene by about 5 p.m., and all westbound lanes were subsequently reopened.
