A 28-year-old man has died after being struck by a transport truck in Ajax Tuesday night.
Durham police responded to Salem Road and Chambers Drive around 8:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian collision. Investigators say the man was travelling on rollerblades when he was hit by a 2027 Freightliner making a right turn from the westbound Highway 401 off-ramp onto Salem Road.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck was operated by a 60-year-old man, who stayed at the location and cooperated with investigators.
The Collision Investigation Unit attended as officers examined the scene and gathered evidence. The roadway was closed for several hours overnight during the investigation.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have relevant information to contact investigators.
