A driver was killed after a transport truck crossed the centre median of Highway 401 east of Gananoque and collided with a car Wednesday night, police said.
The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway. Ontario Provincial Police said an eastbound transport truck crossed the grassy median before striking the vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the car was the only occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two occupants of the transport truck were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The crash prompted closures in both directions as police investigated. The eastbound lanes reopened around 3:45 a.m., while the westbound lanes remained closed until approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
