A 78-year-old woman has died following a serious collision involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer on Highway 403 in Oakville.
Ontario Provincial Police were called shortly after 9:30 p.m. Thursday after reports of a disabled SUV stopped in a live westbound lane near Dundas Street.
Before emergency crews arrived, the SUV was struck by a tractor-trailer. The 78-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV passenger, a 67-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with injuries that were considered non-life-threatening. The tractor-trailer driver was not physically injured.
The westbound lanes of Highway 403 remained closed for several hours while police investigated the crash. The highway reopened shortly after 4 a.m. Friday.
