A cyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in west of Ottawa Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Carp Road and March Road in Carp shortly after 3 p.m. A man riding a bicycle was hit by a small SUV and became trapped underneath the vehicle. Firefighters worked to free him from beneath the SUV.

Paramedics said the cyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The intersection was closed following the crash as police investigated, with authorities expecting it to reopen shortly.
