A West Perth driver is facing a careless driving charge after police say cellphone use contributed to a crash that sent another motorist to hospital.
The collision happened shortly after midday on July 29 at the intersection of Perth Line 20 and Perth Road 130, between St. Marys and Stratford. Police said a minivan driver failed to stop at a stop sign on the rural roadway before striking a pickup truck and another vehicle that was stopped.
Investigators determined the minivan driver was using a cellphone when the crash occurred. One person suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
A 41-year-old West Perth resident has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm. Police also noted the driver had been cited for distracted driving at the same intersection on July 10.
