Two men have died following a devastating early-morning crash in North York.
Toronto police say a vehicle slammed into a traffic light pole at Finch Avenue West and Romfield Lane, west of Keele Street, shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
The impact was severe enough to completely knock down the pole and eject the vehicle’s engine block.
Emergency crews performed life-saving measures at the scene, but both occupants died. Police identified the driver as a 39-year-old man and the passenger as a 42-year-old man.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the crash. Speed and possible impairment are among the factors being examined.
