A 20-year-old Hamilton man is facing multiple charges after police say he left the scene of a rear-end collision in Guelph Tuesday evening.

Guelph Police Service responded to the crash at Willow Road and Edinburgh Road North at around 5 p.m. A woman told officers she was stopped when her vehicle was struck from behind. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.

The other driver reportedly left after being told police would be called. Officers located him about 30 minutes later.

An inspection of his vehicle uncovered several safety issues, including improper tires, missing mufflers, defective windshield wipers and no front licence plate.

The man was charged with careless driving, failing to remain at the scene, operating an unsafe vehicle, driving without insurance and several other Highway Traffic Act offences. His vehicle was also taken off the road.
