A 24-year-old Elliot Lake man is facing multiple driving-related charges following a two-vehicle collision on South Bay Road near Lake Nipigon on Aug. 29.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the crash shortly before 10 p.m. after receiving a report that one of the drivers appeared to be impaired. Police said the other motorist was towing a boat when his vehicle was struck.

An investigation determined that the driver of the second vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and subsequently charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and two impaired-driving offences, including operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension under provincial law. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Nipigon court at a later date.
