A child was treated in hospital Monday after being bitten by a leashed dog in a public area of New Tecumseth.
Ontario Provincial Police were notified of the incident around 4:20 p.m. The child was reportedly bitten on the hand while encountering the dog, which was on a leash at the time.
After the incident, the child went to school, where paramedics were called to provide medical assistance before transporting the child to hospital.
Police say the child sustained a puncture wound after pulling their hand away as the dog bit down. The injury was considered minor, and the child was released from hospital later that day after receiving several stitches.
The local health unit and the Town of New Tecumseth have been informed of the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the bite remain under investigation. Police say the dog’s owner has been cooperating with investigators.
