Two men were injured Tuesday evening after an SUV reversed into a barber shop in Ottawa’s Vanier neighbourhood, leaving one victim in critical condition.
Emergency crews were called to CuTzz Barber Salon on McArthur Avenue near Larouche Street at about 5:40 p.m.
Ottawa paramedics said a 30-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital while resuscitation efforts were underway. A second man, 32, was also transported to hospital with serious but stable injuries.
The driver of the SUV did not require medical treatment.
Ottawa police remained at the scene as investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. McArthur Avenue was closed between Larouche Street and Allen Street for investigation, but reopened shortly after midnight.
Update – The 30-year-old man died from his injuries while en route to the hospital.
Ottawa police arrested the driver, a 57-year-old woman, and charged her with impaired driving-related offences. She is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
